Hlinka-Gretzky Cup: Canada wins bronze against Finland

Canada will not come back empty-hand from the Hlinka-Gretzky Cup.

The team of under -18s won the bronze medal thanks to a 3-0 victory against Finland.

The match with little twist was largely dominated by the Canadian team of coach Mathieu Turcotte. She dictated the whole meeting and obtained the best chances of scoring.

There were only five minutes of disputed in the first period, when Cooper Williams scored his first goal of the tournament, completing a nice pass from Colin Fitzgerald. The two players presented themselves alone in front of the Finnish goalkeeper William Gammals, following a turnaround, to give 1-0 lead in Canada.

It was not until late in the second period before seeing Canada double its advance. Well posted in front of the net in digital advantage, Ethan Belchetz went there with a beautiful maneuver to thwart the goalkeeper to his right. It was a fourth goal in this competition for Belchetz.

Defender Daxon Rudolph completed the brand in a deserted net at the end of the third.

Goalkeeper Gavin Betts held the fort but was not so asked, despite digital advantages for Finland in the third period. He faced 19 throws, which he all pushed back to obtain a second bleaching and victory. It was he who was chosen the player par excellence of this meeting.

This is a 30e Medal obtained by Canada in the history of this competition.

In the tournament’s grand finale, the Americans won the gold medal thanks to a 5 to 3 victory over Sweden.
