How the Shark Turboblade fan allowed me to overcome the heat wave without air conditioning

You have surely noticed that Digital is interested in freshness, these days. Current temperatures are obviously for something and our files on air conditioners and fans are there to tell you as modern devices can help you during these periods. Small confidence between us: a comparative section entirely dedicated to fans will soon see the light of day.

However, we have not yet completed the development of our test protocol to be ready from the start of this summer. Nevertheless, I did not resist the temptation to unpack one of the models, the Shark Turboblade, which we presented in this news recently, in order to see to what extent a fan could help me defeat the heat wave. And at home in the South West, as in many other regions of France, we have not been spared.

An amazing wind -style design

The turboblade is delivered not assembled in a strong packaging. And it is rather good news, because the manufacturing quality being there, it would have been a shame to damage such a beautiful object during its transport. Three main elements are present: the base base, a foot already associated with a pale, a second pale to insert, as well as the six buttons remote control with two AAA batteries.

Stickers are arranged all over each element of the fan to prevent it from moving or identifying it – some give the first instructions for use. The assembly could not be simpler and all these explanations are present in the guide in several languages, including French.

Once assembled, one wonders how to transport this device weighing 6.5 kg. This remains reasonable, but to avoid breaking an element, the manufacturer recommends using both hands. One is positioned in the handle the back of the device, while the other holds the foot. Just under the handle is access to the dust recovery panel and its filter.

A control with many modes

Based on the turboblade, a unique button only turns on the device and adjust its ventilation power. Five LEDs bear witness to the power of 1 to 10, either in fixed mode for the first five, or in flashing mode from 6 to 10.

But it is the remote control that offers me the most possibilities. In addition to raising horizontally at handI have the choice between automatic oscillation modes at 45, 90 or 180 °. There is also a timer to schedule the fan stop after 1, 2, 4, 8 or 12 p.m. On the practical side, the remote control has the rear of the turboblade to prevent it from dragging when it is not used.

On the other hand, I was able to test three personalized modes:

  • Mode Sleep The Sahark Turboblade chooses a power supposed to be silent enough to sleep, reduces the lights and cuts the sound. He will keep this state for 8 a.m. before ending the cycle.
  • Mode BreezeBoost It is the most powerful delivered, even going beyond power 10 that can be selected manually. It blows hard, very strong.
  • Mode NaturalBreeze The fan is trying here to reproduce a light wind for the ventilation effect arrives by waves.

Apart from the horizontal oscillation, Shark has not motorized his pale, which must therefore be orient by hand to adopt a horizontal, vertical position or differentiate the air flow of the two right and left blades.

Solo in an office under the roofs, an effective naturalbrezeze mode

My office is in fitted attic, that is to say right under the roof. In this fairly old house, only the tiles and a thin layer of wood paneling separate me from the outside. Suffice to say that the temperature rises quickly in the room! For a hot day, in covered weather, we find the same temperature as that outside. And when the sun hits the roof, it goes far beyond.

As I write these lines, it is 28 ° C in this room. A temperature that does not allow you to stay in front of my workstation without feeling discomfort. For once, I left the air conditioning at rest and positioned the turboblade 2 m away. In this configuration, I first positioned it vertically at the end of the morning, directed towards me with an automatic oscillation at 45 ° and the NaturalBrezee mode started.

It was in this mode that I felt the most comfort. I can even say that the feeling is less aggressive than that of air conditioning and its more biting cold. When the temperature climbed a little more over the day, I stopped the oscillation to keep a fixed breath towards my position, while keeping this natural breeze effect. The alternation between a light and average breath is really very pleasant.

When it was even warmer, I increased power in normal mode, from 5 to 8, to benefit from a better feeling. However, this deprives me of this breaking effect. Whatever the conditions and the strength of the breath, the witness thermometer that I placed on my desk has not varied. Logical, a fan cannot cool the part, even with the tip of the wet cloth, as shown by the test of my colleague Ophélie. Only the sensation created by the air gives this effect of fresh.

At night, at the foot of the bed, we had to play blades

As unpleasant as working in a too hot environment: sleeping in a room with a temperature that does not drop, even open shutters. Could the turboblade come to my rescue? Problem, as a couple, one of the two occupants of the bed is not necessarily comfortable with a breath or the noise caused by a fan.

No luck, in my case, my half is completely refractory. The particular design of the turboblade can lead to a compromise. Placed at the foot of the bed and raised as much as possible, I was able to leave the blade towards my side flat, the other up to prevent the breath from reaching my partner.

For me, the result was rather satisfactory about this point. Regarding noise, if the smallest level of ventilation is acceptable, although always audible, it is still quite strong in the middle of the night, when no other ambient is present in the room. I was able to negotiate to leave the aircraft with timer while we plunged into the arms of this brave morpheus.

Half success, therefore. The pleasant effect is there, it is still necessary to find an common ground on the power to be selected with the other.

This is not the air conditioning, but a real feeling

Let’s be clear, Shark’s turboblade does not replace air conditioning; The two are not really comparable. However, it clearly transforms the perception of heat. Thanks to its original design, its different modes, its oscillation options and a well thought out remote control, it adapts to many everyday situations.

Still a little noisy at night for the most sensitive, it constitutes nevertheless an effective solution to face the hot weather without exploding his electricity bill. I can’t wait to confront it with other models once our protocol was finalized. We will go further by measuring the ventilation force, noise precisely and, obviously, energy consumption.
