Importing Dodge Hornet into Canada and the United States to stop

The Dodge range, which has only three models, will be reduced to two for an indefinite period. The manufacturer Stellantis has just delayed the production of the Dodge Hornet of the Year Model 2026.

This small multissegment is made in Italy alongside its cousin, the Alfa Romeo Tonale, since its release in 2023. However, taxation by the United States of 25% customs tariffs on vehicles made abroad would considerably increase its price already higher than average.

“The production of the Dodge Hornet is postponed for the 2026 model year while we continue to assess the impact of tariff policies in the United States,” said a spokesperson for Stellantis Canada, Alyse Nagode, who confirms that our market is also assigned by this decision even without Canadian customs tariffs on vehicles from Europe.

No date is currently planned for the start of production.

Not a big seller

The Hornet sometimes offers a turbocharged engine whose power amounts to 268 horsepower, sometimes a rechargeable hybrid system which allows you to travel 53 km in electric mode. However, with a price range varying from $ 41,495 to $ 60,995 (PDSF) as well as many problems of quality and reliability, especially on the mechanically, its sales do not impress.

Barely 5,647 units found takers in the United States during the first half of 2025, a decrease of 52% compared to the same period in 2024. With us, the decline is only 1%, but we speak of only 1,094 copies sold-far behind the majority of other compact SUVs. Several dealers still have 2024 inventory models.

Hornet’s big brother, the Durango, sells about four times more in Canada and six times more on the other side of the border.

Recall that a few weeks ago, Dodge also made the decision to postpone the production of the CHIPER DAYTONA R/T electric for the 2026 model year, the time to assess the effects of American tariff policies. The company will therefore only bet on the SCAT Pack version, much more expensive, as well as on the new four -door model and those with petrol engine that come by the end of 2025.
