If Instagram remains one of the most popular networks in the world, competition has not been lacking in recent years with behemoths like Tiktok or Snapchat which offer similar social features. In order not to leave, Instagram therefore regularly deploys functionality updates.
Now far from being a simple photo sharing application, Meta’s service has just added a content republication function as well as a card allowing to see geolocated the content published by your loved ones, note The Verge.
Instatok? Snapgram?
The first feature is openly inspired by Tiktok, which has long since set up content from another account on its own thread. So far, this must go through the story but it is now possible to add a photo taken by someone else directly on their photo grid. The service even offers to add a small legend for the personal touch.
The other big novelty is “the Instagram Map” which is supposed to “help you and your friends connect to the world around you». Concretely, this is an interactive map where you can see the content published by your friends or geolocated public content. If you’ve already used Snapchat’s “snap map”, this is the same thing.
This new tool is accessible from the interface of private messages, since it is technically reserved for nearby contacts. Obviously, Meta specifies that the sharing of the location of the photos is deactivated by default and that it is possible to choose the desired degree of sharing (close friends, specific friends, mutual subscribers, etc.).
An increasingly busy application
Finally, a new “Friends” tab appeared in the interface dedicated to Reels. The latter will offer you to interact specifically with content already consulted by your contacts. There too, it is possible to hide your activity if you do not want certain posts to be offered to your loved ones.
