The survey began following a road check, carried out on September 7, 2024 on the E17 motorway in Waesmunster. Road police from Flanders East noticed four men transferring equipment from cars to a Lithuanian truck. She then discovered 225 kg of ketamine and more than 200 liters of precursors (chemicals used to produce synthetic drugs). Four suspects were apprehended and the prosecution ordered the province’s federal judicial police (PJF) to continue the investigation.
This made it possible to determine that the network transported various types of narcotics, by truck or, in Belgium, via postal packages.
Given the international ramifications of the network, the Belgian police requested the help of Europol. On Tuesday, the Belgian, Dutch and British fonts led 11 searches with the support of Europol. Nine were organized in Belgium, in suspects living in particular in Jette, Antwerp, thanks-Hollogne, Genk or Hasselt. In total, more than five million euros in currencies were seized and 12 suspects were arrested. Five of them were placed under arrest warrant.
