The execution was held at dawn and in public “at the request of the family and citizens, because of the emotional impact that the case had on society,” said Nasser Atabati, prosecutor of the western Azerbaijan province, who shares a border in particular with Turkey, quoted by the judiciary.

No details were communicated on the girl’s age, the profile of her attacker, nor the date of her act.

Judicial procedure was opened in January and the accused sentenced to death in March.

The Iranian Supreme Court confirmed the decision rendered on appeal, said the judiciary.

Murders and rapes are liable to the death penalty in Iran, the second country which in the world practices the most executions after China, according to human rights organizations, notably Amnesty International.

Public executions are generally made by hanging at daybreak.
