At the end of last May, Italy, during an exercise, dropped a missile in the open sea off Sardinia. The idea of exploding it 600 meters deep is not dismissed.
At the end of May, Italy launched a missile which aimed to intercept an enemy aircraft during an exercise off Sardinia. As reported Corriere della Serratwo months later, the latter worth 2 million euros, named Aster 30, is still at the bottom of the water after missing the goal.
Facked with explosive, the missile has been pulled from a Samp-T launcher and fell to the sea near the beaches and tourist cliffs of the Ogliastra. The Italian Ministry of Defense has planned a missile recovery mission “lost” from August 15.
While local residents are concerned about the situation and the news has spread on several Facebook pages, the local authorities have forbidden to approach less than 150 m from the alleged point where the white and long -long missile has sank.
A planned operation
Our foreign colleagues still evoke a recovery attempt “complicated”. The missile, produced in 700 copies by Italy and France, is 600 m deep.
From August 15 until September 20, three naval units and a remote-controlled submarine vehicle will study the possibilities to recover it. The possibility of exploding it has not been dismissed.
