A pilot project for raising the sharing of the road is deployed in washing this month of August. This initiative aims to improve cohabitation between different users and strengthen security on the cantonal road in the Petite-Corniche, between the villages of Aran, Grandvaux and the “Carrefour du nose”.

Faced with the growing diversity of the modes of movement on Vaudois roads (pedestrians, bikes, cars, motorcycles, scooters), the canton of Vaud seeks to encourage mutual respect and to appease traffic, particularly in areas where space is forced. “This initiative is part of the Cantonal Vélo 2035 strategy, which promotes cycle mobility by infrastructure planning better separated from motorized traffic”, specifies the state in a press release broadcast this Wednesday, August 6.

“Have a nose, raise your foot!”

Colorful floor markings, inspired by the vine walls, will be applied to thirteen strategic places in the route (belvedères, crossroads, outlets for walking paths). These arrangements, carried out as part of recent road maintenance work, will be completed by lowering the speed to 60 km/h to moderate traffic and preserve the quality of life of residents.

The awareness campaign, whose slogan is “have a nose, raise the foot!”, Is addressed to all audiences: hikers, cyclists and drivers of motorized vehicles. It relies on a dozen messages referring to the local context, calling for vigilance, courtesy and mutual respect.

A monitoring will be set up in the form of counts, interviews and an online questionnaire to assess the effectiveness of these measures. The results will make it possible to envisage a possible sustainability of the system and its deployment on other similar axes of the cantonal road network.

This project is led by the canton of Vaud, in collaboration with the municipalities of Bourg-en-Lavaux and Lutry, as well as the Lavaux Patrimoine World and Police Lavaux association.
