The Léon Marchand program at the Swimming Worlds, organized until August 3 in Singapore, was revised downwards. The quadruple Olympic champion at the Paris Games will skip the 200 m breaststroke and the 200 m butterfly to focus on the 200 m swimming and the 400 m 4 swimming, said Michel Coloma, the president of the TOEC dolphins at the France-Presse agency, confirming information revealed in Franceinfo by Nicolas Castel, the athlete coach within the Toulouse club.
Léon Marchand therefore decides to focus on his favorite tests. In 2023, he had erased the world record for the American Michael Phelps on 400 m swimming. During the 2024 Olympic Game final, the Frenchman approached very close to the brand established in 2011 on the 200 m 4 swimming by another American, Ryan Lochte: 1 min 54 s 06 against 1 min 54 s. In Singapore, he could seek this reference. “He wants to see what it gives (…)without having other races in the legs ”explain M. Coloma.
With this new program, the Toulousain will start its Worlds on July 30, a day later that initially expected, with the 200m nodes series. The final is scheduled the next day.
