The Lex Netflix already injects 15.9 million into Swiss cinema
Three years after its approval by the Swiss, the law shows its first effects. Of the 752 million turnover, several have been redistributed.
The new law on cinema imposes on streaming companies and large foreign channels to invest in Swiss cinematographic creation.

The Lex Netflixthree years after the Swiss yes in the polls, begins to have its effects. Of the 30 million expected thanks to this new source of financing for Swiss cinema – for the first financial year in 2024 -, 15.9 million have already been allocated.
The new cinema law – entry into force at 1is January 2024 – requires streaming companies, such as Netflix or Amazon, and large foreign chains, such as TF1 or M6to invest in Swiss cinematographic creation. They must pay at least 4% of their raw revenues made in Switzerland.

More than 70 companies registered in late March 2024, 21 of which are affected by this funding obligation, said the Federal Culture Office in a information sheet published on Saturday in Locarno. The decisive turnover declared for 2024 reaches 752 million francs, online with the estimates put forward by OFC during parliamentary debates four years ago.
