Light at the end of the Laviolette bridge

The patience of motorists has indeed been rewarded for 6:30 a.m., while intensive work during the week on the Laviolette bridge is ultimately a thing of the past.

“The recent works have made it possible to install a sealing membrane and the final asphalt of a large part of the work zone,” said the regional spokesperson for the Ministry of Transport, Roxanne Pellerin.

Two -step work and congestion

But the fact remains that the two weeks of intensive work, where a single 3.2 meter route was available in each direction, were not easy for motorists.

The first phase which took place during the first week of the construction vacation also led life to certain holidaymakers, especially at the end of the day.

“Two weeks ago, we hardly had a peak hour in the morning, but the more it advanced during the day and the more difficult it was,” said the spokesperson.

The second week which was delayed, it should be remembered, due to the holding of the Quebec Games in Trois-Rivières was however more complex for motorists, agreed Ms. Pellerin.

“It was difficult in the morning and in the evening this week and there was more an extended rush hour model over two periods.”

“We had announced major congestion and that’s what we saw. We knew that this week would be more difficult than the other, but when we made the decision, my colleagues analyzed traffic in summer and it was the week when there was less debit after those of construction, “she adds.

The end approach

If the news will certainly make people happy, the fact remains that work will still be necessary in the coming months.

“As of Thursday, night work will continue, so we still have several things to do, including replacements for less scale seals, repairs outside the work zone and asphaltage.”

To this end, three weekends are also to be added to the calendar, between September 19 and October 6.

But courage, specifies Ms. Pellerin, since the end approach.

“At that time, we will go and pair the approaches of the bridge to have at the end of 2025, a bridge entirely asphalted with the finished project. But the good news, now, is that in full of the bridge, when there is no obstacle, the speed will be given again at 80 km/h. ”

The work is progressing at the Pont des Piles

While the site is in full swing in Trois-Rivières, on the side of Shawinigan, it is a question of days before the work of the Piles Piles were finished.

“It comes. We said an opening in the summer of 2025, so we are close. But it must be said that it is a project that has been going very well since its beginnings, ”concludes Roxanne Pellerin.
