A pioneer abbey
Château-Chalon owes its name to the eponymous castle, built on the edge of a cliff, and the Benedictine abbey around which the town has gradually built. It is the nuns of this abbey who, the first, planted vines in the sector and produces bottles of wine. The yellow wine of the Jura has since become a real institution.
The nectar was awarded several names, including the AOC Château-Chalon which has existed since 1936 and which is produced on a vineyard of some 50 hectares, details the Jura Tourism platform. The jura yellow wine manufacturing process is specific: aging is done exclusively in oak barrels for at least six years and three months.
