The 28 -year -old son of the former President of the Republic settled in this city at the beginning of the summer of 2025. One year from the municipal elections, he had hitherto neither confirmed nor denied his intention to embark on the campaign. “I don’t know if I will be a candidate or if I will not be a candidate. What I can tell you is that the decision is not made, but impossible for me to live in a city and not to participate in local life, “he said in the local RCF radio station on August 4.
However, it seems that at that time, his decision was already made. Simply, Louis Sarkozy had no intention of making it a media blow: where others multiply the rowdy announcements, preferred him to advance in the utmost discretion.
A first index nevertheless appeared a week after his interview: the deposit, with the Alpes-Maritimes prefecture, of “the association for the financing of the electoral campaign of the list led by Louis Sarkozy for the municipal elections of March 2026 in Menton”.
Confirmation finally fell this Tuesday, August 19, with the official publication of his candidacy for the Official Journal.

In Menton, nothing places the 28 -year -old politician in favorite. Admittedly, the outgoing mayor, weakened by suspicions of embezzlement, will not seek a new mandate, but competition has already announced.
Florent Champion, assistant of the current municipal majority, formalized his candidacy, like Sandra Paire, another elected right, as well as the deputy for the National Rally, Alexandra Masson.
In this context, a question remains: will the name Sarkozy be for him a springboard or a burden, according to local points of view, in this campaign?
