Piscines in Switzerland –
Lucerne baths no longer want to accommodate groups
After Porrentruy who prohibits entry to certain foreigners, Lucerne blocks groups. The measure would be motivated in particular by security.
If Porrentruy has prohibited access to his pool for foreign people who do not work in Switzerland or do not have a valid establishment permit, on the side of Lucerne, it is the groups that are targeted by restrictions.

And Porrentruy has prohibited access to its swimming pool for foreigners who do not work in Switzerland or do not have a valid establishment permit, on the side of Lucerne, it is the groups which are targeted by restrictions. Since mid-June, the city’s public baths have been banning group entry of more than six people when the maximum capacity of the place has been reached, the RTS Thursday, relaying the German press.
The decision would have been motivated in particular by the fact that the places are not suitable for the reception of large groups, according to management. Rosie Bitterli Mucha, Chairman of the Bathroom Board of Directors, describes them as “generally noisy and, according to our experience, rather unattractive”.
A security measurement
The main reason for this decision would still be safe: foreign persons not used to swimming in a lake have led to a larger number of rescue interventions, the management said. The latter notes, however, that the measure concerns all groups and not only tourists, even if the message announcing it is written in German, English and Chinese.
For Anne Sophie Fioretto, project leader at the Tourism Institute of HES-SO Valais interviewed by RTS, this ban can be a short-term solution for Lacernois public baths, but it considers that other strategies should be implemented in the future.
