Meet checks will increase by € 2 in 2026: this is how the measure will be implemented, and which will benefit

Monizze wants to cap the meal vouchers at 12 €

The unions, including the FGTB, the CSC and the CGSLB, had claimed in June 2025 a faster revaluation after the impasse of the negotiations of the interprofessional agreement, marked in particular by the absence of consensus on the salary standard between social partners.

According to the estimates, for an average worker receiving approximately 231 checks per year, this increase would bring the gross amount of € 1,848 to € 2,310, a gain of € 462 per year, up to € 924 once the ceiling mounted at € 12. Concretely, each month, it is between 30 and 40 € of additional purchasing power.

But, beware, this increase will not be automatic for all the workers concerned. It is the employer who decides on the value of “offered” meal checks to his employees. Today, some still have meal checks worth 6 or 7 €, while the maximum is 8 €, for example.

But to encourage employers to increase them, the measure is accompanied by a doubling of employers’ tax deductibility: it goes from 2 to 4 €, which can reduce the cost of implementation for companies. Nevertheless, some companies plan not to follow the revaluation, arguing of the additional cost and the autonomy granted to employers in the granting of meal vouchers.

Arizona wants the end of eco-checks in Belgium: the boss of Monizez gives 5 reasons to explain that it is a “false good idea”

Despite this, this revaluation constitutes an advance expected by many political, union, and even the issuers of meal titles themselves. “”It is something for which we have pleaded for several years, and which has even more meaningful today “explained to us a few months ago Jean-Louis Van Houwe, founder and CEO of Monize. “”We carried out a study which shows that the demand is real on the side of the employees, of course, but also on the side of employers and merchants. Everyone finds today that it is important to respond to the reality of inflation. Some would even like to go higher than 12 euros. “

It remains to materialize the measure in the field, in a context where, let us remember, the eco-checks will be led to disappear. It was one of many points in the federal government agreement, and in the coming months, a reflection will be carried out to make the two measures concrete. “”The eco-check was invented over 15 years ago, and quote me other systems that encourage sustainable expenses. It was visionary at the time and obtained by the social partners. Each euro spent in eco-checks represents a kilo of co₂ saved. In addition, this gives workers’ purchasing power and supports the local economy“, Jean-Louis Van Holden.

Towards the end of the eco -laws under the next federal government? “We are very surprised, it does not make sense,” points out the boss of Monize
