Vigilance triggered with the health authorities
“The level of red vigilance corresponds to an extreme heat wave, exceptional by its duration, its intensity, its geographic extension, and has a strong health impact for the entire population and societal impacts (drought, supply of drinking water, development or stop of certain activities, etc.)”, specifies Météo France.
The level of red vigilance is triggered in consultation with the health authorities.
A system of criteria has been defined for each department with health players (Public Health France in particular) based on the observed health impacts of high temperatures (maximum and minimum)
Prohibition of events
When a department is placed in red vigilance, the prefect may decide to prohibit or limit the magnitude of certain events such as sporting events or festivals.
Instructions can also be broadcast on crèches, leisure centers and organizations welcoming vacation stays to cancel outings, sports activities and festive events. Some establishments may be required to close if the temperature in their premises is too high.
