Microsoft once again alerts its users to the imminent stop of Windows 10 support. A reminder that is not the most useless, because a large part of computers in the world still works with this ten -year old operating system.
It is a lot of career that is fast approaching: Windows 10 will bow out on October 14, after a little more than ten years of good and loyal services (almost) without hitch. Despite this, users still have a little trouble going to its successor, allowing the OS to keep just over 40 % of market share in the world.
The reasons for explaining this situation are diverse: Windows 11 is not compatible with many aging, but still functional machines, some see with a dim view of Microsoft’s commercial strategies (Hello Copilot), when the most stubborn among us prefer to stay in an environment they know well, for example.
Several options for latecomers
To kick the anthill, the Redmond giant published an official message To remind you that all versions of Windows 10 will cease to be supported in less than two months. “On October 14, 2025, Windows 10 version 10:2 p.m. will reach its end of service,” said the company in its communication. After this deadline, Microsoft will no longer provide correction for system safety or stability problems.
Faced with this situation, users who have not yet taken the plunge have several alternatives. The solution recommended by Microsoft remains migration to Windows 11, either on their current machines if they are compatible, or via the Windows 365 cloud service.

For those who wish to extend the use of Windows 10, the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program allows you to benefit from an additional year of updates for a few tens of euros for individuals. It is also possible to access this option for free by using Microsoft Rewards points.
Finally, as our colleagues underline Bleeping Computera third option exists with the versions Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC), intended for specialized equipment such as medical or industrial devices. These editions benefit from a support extended until 2029 for certain variants. Be careful however: they are aimed at companies, and therefore do not benefit from the same compatibilities, features and prices as consumer version.
