“Mom, I got lost on the path”: Liam, 15 -year -old Breton, died during a hike in Italy

“I shouldn’t have let him go alone,” cries this father from Italian help when he learns the terrible news about his son. It took his family for several long hours to understand what had happened to Liam, 15, young Breton, from Erbrée, near Vitré (Ille-et-Vilaine). On a family vacation in the Aosta Valley, in northern Italy, the teenager got lost during a hike and was found dead.

Arrived in Italy a few days earlier for the holidays, according to the Italian press, the family begins on Tuesday a hike in the BECCA di Viou sector, an alpine summit of nearly 3000 meters which dominates the Aosta valley. Along the way to the summit, reports the Corriere della will be, the family decides to blow a little. But Liam wants to continue climbing alone. At his feet, racing sneakers and not hiking shoes, says Stampa.

A video to call for help

On the way to the summit, Liam would have lost himself, and would have found herself in an undergrowth difficult to practice. The teenager panic and contacts his parents around 8 p.m. “Mom, I got lost on the path,” he worries in a video. The young man calls for help. A photo sent a few moments later shows the sector where it is. Liam’s father tried to geolocate his son and then the alert is given.

During the night, the emergency services are mobilizing, throw their drones above the mountain, roam it on foot. And it was only on Wednesday that a helicopter spots the young man: his body lies at around 2000 m above sea level. His phone is found not far from him. An investigation was opened to understand the circumstances of the drama. But already a first hypothesis emerges. According to the first elements, Liam would have slipped on the path after contacting her parents, and would have died, probably at the time, after a fall of more than 50 m in a ravine.
