Municipal elections | Jean Beaudoin will be the Montreal Ensemble candidate on the set

The architect and engineer Jean Beaudoin will be the Montreal ensemble candidate at the town hall of the Plateau-Mont-Royal arrondissement in the municipal elections of November 2. It was the head of political training, Soraya Martinez Ferrada, who made it the announcement on Wednesday afternoon, a few steps from the house of culture of the Plateau.

Jean Beaudoin, who founded the nomadic OPNL transitional development, at the origin of the summer pedestrianization of the avenue du Mont-Royal, will face the project of Project Montreal Cathy Wong, who will seek the town hall of the Plateau-Mont-Royal arrondissement left by Luc Rabouin, who became a Montreal project manager.

The Montreal Ensemble candidate has in particular intended to command a study on mobility in the borough of Plateau-Mont-Royal and to promote pedestrians on avenue du Mont-Royal during the summer period.

During the question period, there was also talk of the accessibility of the district, but before changing the unique senses of the neighborhood, Jean Beaudoin promises to wait for the conclusions of his study on mobility.

“We must be interested in the citizen’s journey in our arrondissement,” said Jean Beaudoin. Whether on foot, by bike or by car, it must be optimal and pleasant. On avenue du Mont-Royal, there are 1,400 reasons to stop, but it is not safe for a child to circulate, so bikes will be excluded from a certain hour, as on rue Bernard. »»

Jean Beaudoin, who was born in 1967 on the Plateau-Mont-Royal and who lives there today, also indicated that he wanted to ensure the financial health of the nine commercial arteries of the Plateau. Among its priorities: housing, education and mobility, discussed earlier. He briefly mentioned the file of the Jeanne-Mance school, shunned by the students of the neighborhood.

The advisers Marie Plourde (Mile End), Marie Sterlin (Mile End), Alex Norris (Jeanne-Mance), Maeva Vilain (de Lorimier) and Laurence Parent (de Lorimier) will defend the three districts of this district of the Center of the City for Project Montreal. For its part, Together Montreal announced the candidacy of Alexander Roberton as an advisor in the Lorimier district. The other candidates will be presented later.

The political training of Soraya Martinez Ferrada brought together some of the candidates experienced so far on Wednesday. Among them, we note Geneviève Desautels (Verdun), Caroline Braun (Outremont), Sylvain Gariépy (Villeray-Saint-Michel-Parc-Expension), Maude Théroux-Séguin (Ahuntsic-Cartierville) or Dominic Perri (Saint-Léonard).

Noise regulation

The formation of Mme Martinez-Ferrada opposed this week to regulation on the noise of project Montreal.

The new regulation on the noise of the borough of the Plateau-Mont-Royal, proposed last fall following the closure of the tulip, softens the noise limits imposed on the performance halls. Thresholds of decibels were established inside the rooms, as well as outside, depending on the ambient noise.

Read the article “establishments fear salt fines”

On the other hand, bars which do not hold a performance hall license are excluded from these softens and are exposed to fines of $ 10,000 to their first offense – they are currently $ 1,500. A “novelty” which raised the ire of the owners.

Together Montreal offers “a mediation process before imposing sanctions”, by recommending “a graduated and collaborative approach”. Mme Martinez-Ferrada also proposes that the processing of complaints will be provided by a specialized administrative unit, independent of the police services.

On the sidelines of the presentation of the candidacy of Jean Beaudoin, Soraya Martinez-Ferrada insisted on the importance of changing the approach: “The regulation provides that it is still the police who treat the noise complaint. What I say is that the police must be removed from the equation. I want there to be mediation for a single individual, with a single address, cannot close a performance hall. »»

The borough of Plateau-Mont-Royal, which would like to adopt the settlement in September, was open to amendments.

But for the moment, the new regulation provides indeed that “competent authority which has reasonable reasons to believe that the tranquility of a person is troubled by a noise that it considers excessive given the time, place and all other circumstances, can order anyone who causes this nuisance to put it any immediately”.
