The canton of Bern will open a new French -speaking return center in Bienne Monday for families with children and single women. The structure, planned to accommodate up to 66 people, will take over from the Bellelay family reception center.

(Keystone-ATS) The new accommodation, belonging to the canton, is located Quai du Bas 30, in the villa of the director of the former industrial site Bühler (Bühler-Areal), the security management said on Wednesday. Its development began in mid-June, after the withdrawal of two oppositions against the building permit application.

Children of school age will therefore be able to return to Bienne. In August, a game place will be fitted out in the garden, as is a bicycle shelter and a selective sorting point. The canton entrusted the operation of the family return center to the company ORS Service. Rehabilitation, the building has long been vacant.

“The new family return center in Bienne is a good solution. He completes the family centers already in service in Enggistein and Aarwangen, “said State Councilor Philippe Müller, director of security, quoted in the press release. The dismantling of the Bellelay center will be completed at the end of August.
