The Detroit Red Wings announced on Tuesday that they will withdraw the No 91 of striker Sergei Fedorov during a ceremony which will precede a match against the Hurricanes of Caroline, on January 12, 2026.
The Russian, who is now 55, played for the Red Wings from 1990 to 2003. During this period, he won three Stanley cups (1997, 1998 and 2002).
Fedorov scored 483 goals and collected 696 help in 1248 career games in the NHL with the Red Wings, Anaheim Ducks, Columbus Blue Jackets and Washington Capitals. He also scored 52 goals and collected 124 assists in 183 games from the Stanley Cup qualifiers.
During his illustrious career, the hockey player from Pskov, Russia, won the Frank J. Selke trophy (1994 and 1996), Lester B. Pearson (1994) and the Hart (1994) trophy. He also won the silver medal at the Nagano Olympic Games in 1998, and that of bronze at the Games of Salt Lake City in 2002.
After leaving the NHL after the 2008-09 season, Fedorov played three seasons with Magnitogorsk Metalurg, KHL.
After his player career, Fedorov worked for 12 seasons in the management of the CSKA Moscow, occupying the posts of director general from 2012 to 2017, of principal advisor from 2017 to 2021 and chief coach from 2021 to 2024. He was also appointed the coach of the year KHL in 2021-2022 and 2022-2023, leading the CSKA Moscow consecutive champion of the Gagarin Cup, in 2022 and 2023.
He was also elected to the NHL’s renowned temple in 2015, and to the renowned temple of the IIHF in 2016.
The six -foot attacker, an inch and 200 lb was a fourth round choice, 74th in total, of the Red Wings during the NHL recovery in 1989.
