No application to Canada Games for Trois-Rivières

The City of Trois-Rivières does not wish to submit its candidacy for the Canada Games, the next edition of which in Quebec is to take place in 2031.

While the final of the Quebec Games in Trois-Rivières ended barely a few days ago, the possibility for the region to host Canada Games in the winter of 2031 was mentioned by some, especially among the organization of competitions that ended on Sunday.

The work of the organizers of the Games was notably praised by Sports Québec and Sports Canada, which would have invited the city to apply.

But according to the mayor of Trois-Rivières, Jean Lamarche, if he is pleasant to be courted by this organization, the prospect of such a candidacy is slightly fast.

The file submitted would be as early as in September. It also means that these are winter games, so we have to immediately assess what is the development prospect for usexplained Mr. Lamarche in an interview at Téléjournal Mauricie and Center-du-Québec.

He believes that in particular, in terms of infrastructure for certain sports such as alpine skiing, Trois-Rivières would not be well equipped by itself to hold winter Canada games.

Mr. Lamarche believes, however, that Trois-Rivières can dream of other major events, which could be within time for the city’s 400th anniversary in 2034.

What we did at the Quebec Games is to demonstrate the mobilization of Trois-Rivières, in terms of city employees, in terms of volunteers, in terms of economic and community partnerships, that, we know that we can do it. Now what to find is at the level of the timingthe good events that will once again be able to make us shinehe adds.

He believes that the passage of Quebec Games in the region will have left behind infrastructure that can be used in other major events.
