La Tour-de-Peilz (VD) is hosting this weekend the 48th edition of the Regatta des Vieux Boats, which will put in several vintage sailboats in front of the port. Among the featured boats, four Latin boats of Lake Geneva – the Vaudoise, La Neptune, La Demoiselle and L’Aurore – will compete on Sunday the Centennial Regatta.
(Keystone-ATS) This edition will be special for these Latin sails boats, knowing that Switzerland and other countries have filed a file this spring to reveal this tradition with the intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO.
The Latin sails appeared in the 13th century on Lake Geneva, where they reigned supreme until the Belle Epoque before declining. These boats are distinguished with their triangular veils rigged on a large antenna, which allows them in particular to go up against the wind.
Today, the Latin sails are notably known thanks to the Vaudoise, whose releases on Lake Geneva are organized by the famous pirates of Ouchy.
The public will also have the opportunity, on Saturday, to take advantage of mini-crosses on the boats present, the organizers said in their press release.
