Minister Christian Dubé goes ahead to change the method of remuneration for family physicians, despite the opposition of their union federation.
“I think the bill, it is justified,” said the health holder when he arrived at the Council of Ministers in Quebec on Wednesday morning.
Christian Dubé reacted to a request from the Federation of Omnipractian Doctors of Quebec (FMOQ).
In an open letter published in The newspaperits president, the Dr Marc-André Amyot, claims the withdrawal of Bill 106, which will impose penalties related to the performance of omnipractians and specialist doctors.
Québec wishes to link 25% of their remuneration to achieving targets determined by the ministry, such as offering 18 million meetings annually.
“For quality medicine, performance cannot be linked to remuneration; The college of doctors itself judges it worrying and unacceptable, ”argues the Dr Amyot in his missive.
Passing through LCN, he invited the government to “change his approach”, accusing him of disparaging doctors.
Defeat in Arthabaska
The FMOQ’s request occurs in the wake of the Caquist defeat during the by -election of Arthabaska. Monday evening, Prime Minister François Legault said he wanted to make changes in several files, including access to public services, such as health.
But Christian Dubé and François Legault rather took advantage of the press scrums on Wednesday to underline the absence of the FMOQ at the negotiation tables this summer. They continue their work in parallel to conclude a new agreement with the doctors.
According to the Prime Minister, family physicians “refuse to sit at the table” of negotiations.
However, the FMOQ claims to have participated in 13 games with the treasure between the end of June and mid-July.
The Dr Amyot was also in contact all summer with the ministers Dubé and Sonia Lebel, as well as members of the Prime Minister’s office, said the medical federation.
The last call with the president of the Treasury Board, Sonia Lebel, took place last Monday, it noticed.
Reshuffle
In addition, Christian Dubé hopes to remain as a post as Minister of Health during the important reshuffle scheduled after the Labor Day.
He met François Legault in recent weeks, like several other ministers and deputies. “I told him that it was the most beautiful challenge he had given me, to take up the health network,” he told journalists.
Appointed to health now five years ago, Christian Dubé stresses that the ministry has not experienced such stability for “decades”.
“It’s a privilege because when you take a big ministry like that […] You have to have time to understand things well, he explains. So yes, there are difficult files, but I understand them well. ”
However, the Minister has already announced that he will not be in the ranks in the next general elections in 2026.
