Nine years after one of the worst contaminations in the Alpine region, preparatory work to displease the Spöl stream in the Swiss National Park (GR), began. In 2016, the river was contaminated at PCB during work on a dam.
(Keystone-ATS) Preparations start with work at the foot of the Punt Dal Gall dam (Livigno). It is also a question of securing the alluvial cone of the spöl and erecting a temporary flow measurement station at the end of the rehabilitation section, the Swiss National National Park and the Engadine forces in a joint statement on Monday.
Fish rescue will start in September: the river bed must be dried up to eliminate contaminated materials from PCBs. Some 12,000 “sought” fish will be transported downstream by helicopter.
As a reminder, pollution was due to a leak during anti -corrosion protection work on the Punt Dal Gall dam. Various appeals blocked the sanitation prescription of the canton, before a compromise approved last year.
