Prime Minister Carney talks to the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen

Today, Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke with the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

The leaders focused their discussion on the means of making Canada and the European Union (EU) stronger and more competitive in the face of the transformation of trade relations and economic uncertainty.

They discussed the tightening of their strategic partnership and the strengthening of cooperation between Canada and the EU, as well as the Global and Progressive Transpacific Partnership Agreement (PTPGP).

They have taken stock of the recent EU-Canada summit and progress made since then.

Canada and the EU consolidate their partnership in key fields such as industrial policy, digital trade, critical raw materials and own technologies, in accordance with commitments made at the summit.

In addition, the leaders have discussed new collaboration opportunities in supply and manufacturing linked to the defense industry, as part of their new security and defense partnership.

Prime Minister Carney and President Von Der Leyen will remain in regular contact and will continue to work in close collaboration.
