Bottal

Thinking about regional planning in Geneva in 2025 is to go beyond the logic of “all in the center” to build a local canton, on a human scale. If a certain densification remains necessary given the smallness of our territory and the shortage of housing, it must now be associated with the quality of life, thought in a multipolar way and adapt to the specificities of the 45 Geneva municipalities.

Proximity

Our responsibility is to create housing for all budgets, in localities and neighborhoods well served and equipped. This requires a regional approach coordinated with the municipalities, the canton of Vaud and neighboring France. Together, we must reduce territorial imbalances so that everyone can live, learn, work, move, treat themselves and have fun near home.

From Chancy to Chêne-Bourg, via Vernier and Jussy, each inhabitant must be able to access a crèche, a school, a bakery or a place of care. The principle of the territory of short distances or the “quarter of an hour” must become reality throughout the canton.

Development projects

This is why development projects must integrate essential services from the start: schools, crèches, public transport, shops, cultural and sports spaces. It is also time to simplify procedures and strengthen public-private partnerships, for example to accelerate the vegetation streets and buildings.

Climate

Because the reality is there: we suffocate every summer. It therefore requires strong measures: 30% canopy by 2030. The streets must be shaded and the public space redesigned by fully integrating the right to the shade as an essential condition of comfort and health. Nature in the city is not a setting: it is a vital response to climate emergency. Vegetable neighborhoods, it’s the key to breathing the day and sleeping at night.

Pedestrians

This is also why I fully support the pedestrian initiative subject to the vote on September 28. Pedestrians today represent 39% of trips to the canton, they must be respected. Let us develop safe, comfortable, wooded courses, protected from heat and pollution. It is a priority.

Finally, supporting a healthy environment is defending our local agriculture. The agricultural area must be preserved and the farms strongly sustained in the adaptations imposed by climate change. It is vital for their survival, but also a guarantee for our population to be able to access a local, sustainable and quality food.

Together, let’s draw villages and cities where you can accommodate, breathe, move and age in good health.
