The meteorological summer, which ends on August 31, is expected to offer a striking contrast to Quebec. The first half of August stood out in temperatures clearly higher than normal, with almost +2 ° C difference in Montreal. But the trend is reversed. Explanations.
A heat pulse before the switch
This week, a brief ascent of the mercury will bring back a summer impression, especially in southern Quebec, with temperatures approaching 30 ° C in places. However, this heat will be short -lived. From the end of the weekend, the scenario changes radically: regions of which southern Quebec will slide into a more autumn trend, with maximums struggling to reach seasonal normal.
According to forecasts, the second half of August will be much cooler than the first, with slightly normal means, approximately –0.5 ° C in several regions.
Contrasting regional assessments
Despite this, the vast majority of the province will display positive anomalies for the whole month of August.
In short, even if the end of August promises to be fresh, the strong heat of the beginning of the month will be enough to maintain assessments superior to normal.
A end of summer that suddenly turns around the fall
In the long term, the trend is becoming clearer: Quebec is oriented towards a colder end of summer meteorological, with fresh nights and days that will sometimes give a taste of autumn. The contrast between the beginning and the end of the month will be about three times more marked than usual, which illustrates the brutality of the turn.
