Canadian owners of an iPhone, iPad or Mac can now repair their devices themselves thanks to the launch of the Apple repair program, which gives access to official parts, tools and manuals, all in French.
Apple announced on Tuesday the expansion of its repair services in Canada, offering more options to consumers for the maintenance of their devices. The technological giant deploys two programs which were already offered elsewhere: the self-service repair program (Self-Service Repair) intended for individuals and a program for the distribution of original parts (Genuine Parts Distributor) for professional repair workshops.
Canada is 34e countries to benefit from these services. Casually, Apple is one of the manufacturers whose products have the longest lifespan, thanks to software support and, now, a material which is one of the best integrated on the computer market.
The self-service repair program is designed for people at ease with technology wishing to carry out their own repairs. It gives access to the same catalog of parts and the same tools as those used in Apple Store stores and at approved service providers.
The program currently covers 65 Apple products, including iPhone ranges from 12e of the name, as well as Mac computers. The vision pro helmet and the Apple Watch are not covered by these programs.
Self-service repair
To get started, the user is invited to consult the repair manual corresponding to his device on the Apple site beforehand. These detailed guides, available in French, explain the step to follow step by step and are sometimes accompanied by video tutorials.
Once the diagnosis is placed, it is possible to order the necessary original parts and buy the specific tools, sold individually or as a whole. For those who provide only one repair, Apple also offers the rental of its tool kit.
A novelty included in the service is the diagnostic tool for self-service repairs. This software, accessible since 2023, allows users to carry out tests and precisely determine which component is defective.
This tool can be particularly useful in complex cases, such as water -caused damage. Although each situation is unique, the software can help identify the extent of the damage and the parts to be replaced, a task previously reserved for professionals.
Original parts distributor
Apple also launches its original parts distribution program in Canada. It allows independent repair workshops to obtain Apple original parts through authorized distributors. In Canada, it is the Mobile Sentrix company that will provide this distribution. This initiative aims to expand the reliable repair ecosystem, ensuring that more technicians have access to certified components.
With this launch, Apple claims that 80 % of the Canadian population is now less than 30 minutes from a repair solution, whether it is an Apple store, a professional repairer or the possibility of doing it at home.
This announcement is part of the company’s desire to promote the longevity of its products, an objective based on a lasting design, continuous software updates and, now, increased repairability.
