A slightly less festive Saturday for some
For many sectors of Quebec, Saturday is announced as the very definition of the perfect summer day: a warm, but not suffocating mercury, and the sun has the party! Some more violent storms even want to manifest.
Sectors that attract thunderstorms like magnets
Energy is quite high this Saturday for Abitibi and northern Quebec sectors. What does it mean? That there is a risk of more violent thunderstorms in places. Costauded thunderstorm cells could break out, especially in Matagami and the surrounding area. Besides, a little after 10 a.m. this morning, a watchful thunderstorm was issued for these sectors.
“These thunderstorms could continue during the evening and even the night from Saturday to Sunday. At these moments, however, there are more regular thunderstorms than violent, ”said Alexis Vazquez, meteorologist.
In addition to sometimes abundant rain, sectors may be entitled to strong gusts. As a bonus, large hailstones could be observed, in places. The regions of Laurentides, Lanaudière, Outaouais, Mauricie and Saguenay would be visited by these thunderstorms, but in a less violent way than this could be the case for the sectors more in the west and north.

The risk of violent thunderstorms continues on Sunday, with the arrival of a frontal system. The convective energy necessary for the formation of thunderstorms will be present. The line of thunderstorms could, this time, extend from Val-d’Or to Gaspé.
