A red dot on a wall, a cat that leaps to catch it: at first glance, cat lasers are harmless and fun. This is what a Swiss thought when she ordered one on the Chinese site Shein. The little gadget cost him 3 francs… to which were added 100 francs fine and 400 francs in procedural costs, reports «20 minutes».

The reason? The laser received was not authorized in Switzerland. Since 2021, federal legislation has prohibited any laser pointer other than those in class 1, the least powerful. This regulation aims to avoid the risks of eye lesion. If these class 1 devices are deemed harmless to humans, they can present a danger to animals. Cats have sensitive retinas that can be damaged by a concentrated light beam. Learn sitewhich markets this type of product, recommends never to direct the light towards the head of pets.

For its part, the Swiss domiciled in Saint-Gall received a criminal order from the public prosecutor, which accuses it of not having inquired about the legality of the product. As for the small object, it was kidnapped in customs to be destroyed.
