School holidays are over: it is back to school for 900,000 students from the Wallonia-Brussels Federation!

Vias fears that the prohibition of telephone at school has impacts on road safety: “We will have an army of zombies on the road”

After a fairly heckled first year, Minister Glatigny should not experience a second year of quieter legislature.

Unhappy with government projects for teaching, socialist and Christian unions have just slammed the door of different concertation groups set up to combat the shortage of teachers. Once back to school has passed, it is likely that new strikes or demonstrations are organized, as last year.

Future changes

On the political level, all the actors of the school are impatiently waiting to see more clearly in the intentions of the government as to the future of the common trunk in high school. This now applies in 6th primary. He must arrive in the secondary next year already.

The majority agreement provides for adapting the scheduled extension of this common trunk to the secondary 3rd. The displayed ambition is to integrate more “orienting activities”.

This 3rd would then count only a “reduced base of common activities”, thus deviating from the CAP fixed by the Pact for a teaching of excellence concluded in 2017 by the stakeholders of the school.

What if we dedicated white days to the highway code? : the interesting proposal of the Vias Institute

The contours of these changes are currently the subject of discussions between MR partners and committed. Their decisions are expected in the coming weeks.

Another point of attention: the development of the 2026 budget of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. The new government has displayed its intention to regain control over the chronic slippage of its budget. The teaching alone capturing some 70% of the expenses, some fear new planer strokes on the school.
