Scooters, bikes, cars … recycling all electric batteries now compulsory: news

As of Monday, August 18, the recycling of electric batteries from any type of vehicle is compulsory. This is a new European standard called REP for the widen liability of the producer, reports RTL.

A new binding rule, but at the service of ecology. As of this Monday, August 18, all manufacturers and sellers of electric batteries, including scooters, bikes, cars and other light vehicles are equipped, have the obligation to finance the collection and recycling of these products. This obligation stems from a new European standard, called an REP for extended responsibility of the producer, which is now in force, reports RTL. All European states must follow this rule and, therefore, organize the end of life of these electric batteries.

The legislation only imposed the recycling of electric batteries and batteries for small devices, such as mobile phones, computers or even electronic cigarettes. European regulations have been extended to transportation batteries.

Three eco-organizations authorized to recycle electric batteries in France

Producers, importers and distributors of electric battery have two options to comply with this new standard. They can have their own recycling sector, which complies with specific specifications, or delegate this task by paying a contribution to an eco-organization that will take care of collection and recycling for them. In France, according to the decree published in the Official Journal, three eco-organizations received approval to take care of this: Ecosystem, Batribox and recycle my vehicle.
