Hundreds of deaths, a traumatized population, and a capital bombed by a neighboring state: in a few days, the rivalries between Druzes and Bedouins in southern Syria gave rise to a bloodbath … and still weakens the government of Ahmed al-Charaa, which has been trying since its accession to the head of the state to prevent the country in general.

It all started with the removal of a vegetable seller from the Druze community (an esoteric group from the Ismaelian branch of Shiism, the majority in the Soueida region) by Bedouins, Sunnis. This followed the intercommunity clashes between the two rivals, with ancient grievances. When the government armed forces – also mainly Sunnis – entered Soueïda with the aim of pacifying the situation, they would have fought according to many witnesses alongside the Bedouins, themselves being guilty of abuses.
