Solberg lived the “best day” of his life at the Estonia Rallye

Oliver Solberg described his victory this Sunday at the Estonia Rally as “Bigger day of [sa] vie”he who returned to the world championship almost three years after his last appearance in Rally1.

The Swedish and his co -pilot Elliott Edmondson signed a surprise success during the Baltic on Earth event, to which they were registered a few weeks ago by Toyota. Solberg won her very first Specials in WRC (nine in total), quickly taking orders on Friday, before not dropping them until Sunday. It was his 13th appearance in the queen category of the discipline.

After several years in WRC2 – championship of which he is currently the leader in 2025 -, Solberg did not hide his emotion when crossing the finish line. “I don’t have the words”he said for Motorsport.com. “I don’t think I am still fully aware of what I accomplished, I cried and all the emotions took over. I don’t know what to say, but it’s the best day of my life.”

“I was simply trying to take advantage of the moment and take the specials one after the other. When you look at who is behind you, these are big names and the fastest pilots in the world. I just tried to do my job without focusing on it, and it worked pretty well.”

Solberg’s success is all the more powerful emotionally since his first pass in Rally1 had been far from being a success, on behalf of Hyundai at the time. Now 23 years old, which makes him the third youngest winner in WRC after Kalle Rovanperä and Jari-Matti Latvala, he recognizes that this context has put his determination to the test.

“We all know that the key lies in perseverance and self -confidence, even if it has sometimes been difficult. We must always trust our feelings and our instinct, follow our intuition and go ahead. I always thought that when everything is in place, it is quite possible to achieve great things.”

“I always believed in me and in my speed, but when you have such a fantastic team behind you to help you believe in you, it’s great. I felt very comfortable throughout the weekend. It was very pleasant, I was very quiet in the car and it was beautiful.”

After this Estonian victory, the next meeting for Solberg will normally be to compete in the Finnish rally in WRC2, driving a GR Yaris Rally2. However, he hopes that his weekend performance will help him get a full-time bucket in rally1 in the future. “I don’t know [ce que l’avenir me réserve]it is up to others to answer this question. I’m just going to do my best. I hope 100% [qu’il y aura un volant l’année prochaine]”he concluded.
