A new episode of the clan war which tears the Geneva animal protection society (SPA) was revealed Friday by the “Tribune de Genève”. On July 10, five days before the general meeting during which the association’s committee was removed from its functions by a majority of voting members, the accounts of the said association were almost emptied. Several million shares and bonds have been transferred to a joint account and to the account of the SPA Foundation, owner of the Vailly refuge, where animals are welcomed.
According to the calculations of the “Tribune de Genève”, while the association had 7.3 million francs on its account in June, it now has only 390,000 francs. According to the President of the Foundation, this transfer is explained by the desire to provision the future work to enlarge the refuge, “in which the association and the foundation in equal apart” participate “.
Certain sources of the Genevan daily newspaper are surprised, however, from the calendar of this financial movement: it intervened just before the overthrow of the current committee, which the foundation argues firmly, while it faces a sling led by several opponents, including the ex-director licensed at the start of the year. A general meeting will be held on August 13 to designate the new committee. But it may well be that he runs an empty shell, if he should not be suitable for the foundation: this one, owner of the walls, now has the upper hand on the cash.
