32 dog bodies were found on a farm, some were chained or locked in cages. An investigation into the owner of the farm to abandon the death of the dogs was opened.
Spanish police announced this Friday, August 8, have opened an investigation for animal abuse, after discovering 32 hunger dogs in a farm in the center-west of Spain.
Dogs had been abandoned without water or food since June in this property located in the province of Badajoz, said Guardia Civil. Some were free to move, and other chained or locked in cages.
“Deplorable sanitary conditions”
“In some cases, dogs had tried to eat with the remains of those who had already died,” added the police who made this macabre discovery last week after receiving a report on the fate of animals, left unattended and in poor condition.
“All lived in deplorable sanitary conditions, without water or food, which finally led to their inanitual death,” reports the Spanish daily El Pais. On site, several dogs are decaying on straw. Please note, these images can strike.
The agents discovered animal carcasses, “at different decomposition stages”, scattered on the property. Photos published by the police show emaciated carcasses of dogs.
The Guardia Civil opened an investigation into the owner of the farm to abandon the death of dogs. Spain adopted in 2023 a new law on animal welfare which increases sanctions for ill-treatment and abandonment.
