Some 550 senior officials of the security apparatus in Israel call US President Donald Trump to put pressure on Benjamin Netanyahu to end the war in Gaza and thus bring back “hostages at home”. The mail signatories made public on Monday add that “Hamas no longer represents a strategic threat to Israel”.
“Stop the war in Gaza!” Exhort a mail of the movement of “Commanders for the security of Israel” (CIS), signed by 550 former spy leaders, soldiers, police and diplomats and made public on the night of Sunday to Monday.
“We have a duty to get up,” alerts Ami Ayalon, former director of the Shin Bet, the internal security service, in a video broadcast by the movement to support this letter.
“This war began as a just war, a defensive war. But once all its military objectives have been reached and a brilliant military victory against all our enemies, it ceased to be a just war. It led the State of Israel to the loss of its security and its identity,” said the latter.
The alert cry of senior officials
Among the signatories of this letter are in particular three former Mossad bosses, the external intelligence service, five ex-shin Bet-Bet-Bet, internal intelligence as well as three ex-chief headlines.
“On behalf of CIS, the largest Israeli group of former army generals, Mossad, Shin Bet, police and equivalent diplomatic corps, we urge you to end the war in Gaza. You have done so in Lebanon. It is time to do it in Gaza too,” they argue with Donald Trump.
“TSAhal (the Israeli army) has long achieved the two objectives that could be achieved by force: dismantling military training and the government of Hamas,” said CIS members. “The third, and most importantly, can only be reached by an agreement: bringing all the hostages home”.

Hamas is “no longer a threat”
“We consider, as professionals, that Hamas no longer represents a strategic threat to Israel, and our experience tells us that Israel has everything you need to manage its residual capacities of terror, from a distance or otherwise,” they say.
“Tracking the last senior Hamas officials can be done later”, but “hostages cannot wait”.
“Bring back the hostages” and “stop suffering”
“Your credibility with the vast majority of Israelis strengthens your ability to guide Prime Minister Netanyahu and his government in the right direction,” added the signatories to the President of the United States.
For them, it becomes urgent to “put an end to war, bring the hostages, stop suffering and form a regional-international coalition which helps the Palestinian authority (once reformed) to offer Gazaouis and all the Palestinians an alternative to Hamas and its perverse ideology”.

“We are on the verge of defeat,” comments the former director of Mossad, Tamir Pardo in the video. “What the world is witness today is what we have done,” he deplores about disastrous humanitarian conditions in the besieged Palestinian territory.

For his part, Yoram Cohen (Shin Bet) judges that the current government is animated by a fanatic zeal. The leaders in question “are a minority […]but the problem is that the minority controls politics, “he said.
