The union members of the luxurious W Montreal hotel sparked a 24 -hour strike on Sunday evening to have a 23% salary increase over four years.
“We wanted to accelerate the process with a Négo Blitz, we were ready to settle, but the employer put practically nothing on the table,” said by statement on Monday morning, the president of the union, Raphaël Gouin Loubert.
Nestled between Old Montreal and the city center, the 152-room and suites hotel has many private terraces frequented by opulent clientele.
W Montreal is part of the Marriott hotel giant, which has garnered profits from 4 billion in the past.
“We are talking here about a luxury hotel, with rooms at more than $ 400 per night,” denounces Bertrand Guibord, president of the Central Council of Metropolitan-CSN Montreal.

The union members argue that the employer has a long way to make to catch up with the wages offered by the other hotels.
They believe that the employer has the means to pay them better.

Its head office is in Bethesda, Maryland.
