The former Brazilian-president Jair Bolsonaro was forced on Friday of now carrying an electronic bracelet by a judge of the Supreme Court, who accuses him of encouraging, with his son Eduardo, to “hostile acts” against Brazil.
Currently on trials for an alleged attempted coup against the current leftist president Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva, Jair Bolsonaro denounced before the press a “supreme humiliation” at the exit of the offices of the Secretariat for Justice of the Brasilia District.
The decision was published by judge Alexandre de Moraes, who conducts the current trial against the former far-right president (2019-2022).
It intervenes in the midst of a diplomatic crisis between Brazil and the United States. Denouncing a “witch hunt” against his ally, US President Donald Trump threatened Brazil with an additional 50% customs duties from August. Lula has suppressed “unacceptable blackmail”.
In addition to the port of the electronic bracelet, Jair Bolsonaro will not be authorized to leave his home between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday to Friday and continuously on weekends and holidays, details Judge Moraes in his decision.
Nor can he be “in contact with ambassadors and foreign authorities”.
The former president sees in his trial a “political persecution” and risks more than 40 years in prison. The judgment is expected in the coming weeks.
Eduardo Bolsonaro, one of his sons, currently lives in the United States, where he pleads to the American authorities for the taxation of sanctions against Brazilian justice.
