No less than 64% of the Sudanese population, or about 28.4 million people, is in a situation of acute food insecurity.
“Faced with this situation, the Directorate of Cooperation Development (DDC) has decided to unlock 4 million francs from its budget in favor of the United Nations Humanitarian Fund for Sudan (SHF),” said the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAE) on Friday in a press release.
This amount aims to strengthen support for international, national and local NGOs, which more easily have access to the most affected and difficult to access areas, he said. Since 2023, the DFAE has allocated more than 135 million francs to support the Sudanese population.
The country has been immersed, for more than two years, in a serious humanitarian crisis, due to the fighting between the Sudanese armed forces and the rapid support forces. More than 10 million people are currently moved inside the country and nearly 4 million have fled in neighboring countries. According to the United Nations, more than 30 million people need humanitarian aid in Sudan.
