Young Greens oppose the Civil service reform And announce the launch of a referendum against the measures wanted by the Federal Council. In a communiqué Published on Monday, the party confirmed its determination to counter this reform, even if the Council of States still has to decide this fall. He also requests the general abolition of the obligation to serve under the flags.
The Swiss government wishes to significantly reduce the number of people who leave the army for civil service. Currently, a third of civilists come from this transition. The proposed measures aim to pass the number of annual admissions to the civil service from 6,600 to 4,000 people.
In June, the national majority of the National Council already supported these measures, despite the opposition of the left and the Vert’liberals. Young Greens criticize in particular that “although the army enrollment is already superior to what the law authorizes, the Parliament wants to massively weaken civil service”. According to them, these six measures will make civil service less attractive and complicate the passage of the army to the civil service.
Towards an abolition of compulsory service in Switzerland?
Beyond their opposition to the current reform, young Greens claim the abolition of compulsory service. “Compulsory military service leads to a forced militarization of society,” says their co -president Sheldon Masseraz. Any form of obligation to serve is a massive damage to the personal freedom of individuals. ”
Young Greens rather offer the establishment of a voluntary social service in “fields of systemic importance”. This service would be open to anyone residing in Switzerland from the age of 15. It would be paid up to at least 120 francs per day. Young Greens also want this service to recognize voluntary commitment and care -related work, while offering flexibility in its duration and occupancy rate.
