System restoration no longer works in old Windows versions

A monthly security update has rendered the restoration functions of the system unavailable for Windows 11 23h2 and Windows 10.

Microsoft has a lot of update problems to solve this month. Now Microsoft reports that system recovery options are no longer available on some older versions. This occurs after installing the most recent security update.

System restoration problems affect old Windows versions, Note Microsoft. These are Windows 113:2 a.m., 10:2 p.m. and different versions of Windows 10, for which Microsoft ceases the support in the fall. The more recent versions of Windows 11 and Windows Server are not affected.

The bug means that Windows automatically cancels a system restoration. Nothing is lost, but you cannot reset your PC either. Microsoft has meanwhile deployed an update off -band KB5066189 and advises to install it. This is a cumulative update, so you don’t need to first update.

Windows 11 24H2

Windows 11 24h2 may not have a problem of restoring the faulty system, but the latest version has its own problems. Some users have trouble installing the update. This is especially the case for professional users who use Windows Server Update Services. Microsoft has meanwhile deployed a fix for this.

Reports also report SSD and HDD which mysteriously “disappear” from Windows after the installation of the August update. However, this problem is not yet recognized by Microsoft. The update adds a large extension to Microsoft Defender and it is recommended to install it as quickly as possible.
