On the paper, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 keeps the exact photo equipment of the Galaxy Z Flip 6. Understand that it is fitted with a double module on the side cover displayincluding a large angle (50 megapixel sensor) and an ultra-angle (12 Mpx sensor). The first regret that we can therefore express is the absence of telephoto lens to increase the photo versatility of the device.
Main module: 50 megapixels, f/1.8, eq. 23 mm
The Galaxy Z Flip 7 provides some small improvements to its predecessor. Its large-angle module still produces 12.5 Mpx shots thanks to pixel-binningand the latter offer a little bit more bitten. The textures are better returned to the center of the image, and the colors are a little more lively, easily flattered the retina. In the peripheral areas of the image, we note that the vagueness present on the images produced by the Flip 6 decreased, in favor of a more visible digital noise. On the other hand, the treatment of certain elements (typographical characters) is a little less precise on Flip 7, the fault of this same noise.
In low light, the Z Flip 7 does not better than its elder … and perhaps even worse. The level of detail is similar, while the exhibition is better. But the fact is that the colors are reflected in the center of the image, and detailed on the outskirts, which harms the readability of the whole.
50 megapixel mode
It is as always possible to capture images in full definition, ie 50 megapixels. The gain is frankly not very convincing: the images are smoothed and fish for lack of naturalness, even in full light. In low light, smoothing mingles with a detail of colors: we will therefore avoid using this mode, which will clutter the memory of the smartphone with heavy and unconvincing shots.
Ultra Grand-Angle module: 12 megapixels, f/2.2, eq. 13 mm
The ultra-angle keeps the characteristics of the Galaxy Z Flip 6, but the results vary clearly clearly. The textures are better restored, at least for the photos taken in full light. Nevertheless, the ultra grand angle still sinks for lack of details when it is dealing with fine details, and there is a certain distortion on the outskirts of the image.
Samsung has completely changed its rifle with regard to the treatment operated in low light. Digital noise is much less noticeable, but it gives way to a very marked smoothing, and which results in flat color erasing a number of details. Concretely, the images are less readable.
Portrait mode, front and video module
To take selfies (as soon as you do not need a visual return on the big screen, it is better to simplify life and opt for the Galaxy Z Flip 7 dorsal photo modules: with their rather soft portrait mode and their high definition, they allow you to capture attractive images. If you use the smartphone as a classic terminal, you will have to be satisfied with a 10 MP Flip 6, which produces correct selfies, but lacking in dive.
On the video side, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 allows you to turn to Ultra HD at 60 I/S (30 I/S to benefit from an additional stabilization) and offers an HDR mode as well as idle. The smartphone offers the same definition (without stabilization) on the facade. The most daring can film with two simultaneous modules thanks to the “double recording” mode.
