I had the privilege of attending the magnificent national tribute ceremony dedicated to Serge Fiori. We obviously celebrated the genius of the artist and the authenticity of man. But speeches inevitably highlighted Fiori’s love for the Quebec nation and its independence dream.
Particular moment when Régis Labeaume spoke. In his simple and direct style, he talked about Fiori, their friendship, for their kid, their sensitivity. A human and well -felt discourse, then suddenly this political statement: “You will have left us, with always in you this immense thirst for political freedom for Quebecers”.
At the last syllable, the crowd had removed the spittle on the former mayor of Quebec. Nourished applause have mixed cries of approval. The ovation has extended until in a second wave of energy, the crowd (not all) is standing.
Fiori through Labeaume, labeaume through Fiori, this duo of which only one still has his voice had just raised the Wilfrid-Pelletier room. Labeaume has retired from politics for some time, he did not run after the stands, but he still has intensity and bite.
The enemy Labeaume?
During the ovation, I remembered a curious thing. This Régis Labeaume, which is shaped for its tribute to Fiori and political freedom, was the subject of an astonishing attack in rule of the PQ last April.
In an open letter, the PQ deputy Catherine Gentilcore strongly attacked Labeaume, placing him in the resignation camp and, in filigree, in the camp of the Old Finis who should be stacked at the way. Régis Labeaume had bizarrely became a public enemy of the Parti Québécois.
However, its service states in the sovereignist movement are known. He wanted to be a candidate for the PQ, he led to a hand to the block and the PQ before starting at the town hall.
What was his sin last spring to deserve this public spanking with the Fleurdelysée flush fate? He criticized the PQ. Above all, he called into question the wisdom for the PQ leader to shut himself up in a referendum shackles. In his colorful language, he described as suicide bomber the idea of promising a referendum inflexibly while the sovereignist option revolves around 33%.
No criticism please
This kind of criticism no longer goes to the PQ. Labeaume changed in the Vilains camp. I am launching an idea: could Régis Labeaume have a unwavering loyalty in Quebec and that he sincerely worries about the consequences of a third losing referendum? What does his political experience lead him to a call to lucidity?
We gave birth to someone, we should listen to it.
The PQ sits at the top of the surveys, ok. But his advance remains fragile and his independence project tramples. The sufficient and messianic attitude of the PQ, which can afford to remove people, could cost dearly.
