The Canadian Luke Evans wins the Ottawa Ironman

Toronto triathlete, Luke Evans arrived in the front row during the first Ironman race in Ottawa. He completed the 3.8 kilometers of swimming, 180 kilometers of bicycle and the marathon in 8 hours, 40 minutes and 22 seconds.

It’s a dream come true, I knew I was going to be in the ranks, perhaps in the top 15 or the top 20. To finish first, it’s simply surrealisthe says, adding that he started participating in triathlons five years ago.

In second position, the Quebecer from Tuque Shane Lynch completed the test 22 minutes later.

After having trained from 15 to 20 hours a week for the triathlon, the athlete finished his first Ironman on the podium. “I would never have imagined, I just ran,” he said.

The first woman to have crossed the finish line is the Gatinoise Aliisa Heiskanen with a time of 9 hours, 32 minutes and 46 seconds.

From the early hours, they were nearly 2,200 triathletes for departure at 6:00 a.m. in the Outaouais river, at Britannia beach.

The race continues, several athletes will travel the streets of Ottawa in the race and by bicycle until Sunday evening.
