The city of Tehran closes public toilets due to a serious shortage of water

The agglomeration of Tehran has a total of around 20,000 public toilets. According to eyewitnesses, many of them are actually closed, especially in and around metro stations.

The Iranian capital has faced a serious shortage of water for several weeks. In addition, electricity cuts are frequent. In several districts of the capital and in fifty other cities in the country, water was cut for 48 hours. Added to this are power cuts which last several hours, while temperatures include between 40 and 50 degrees Celsius.

The government observes the situation with concern and regularly reminds citizens to use water sparingly. President Masoud Pezeshkian himself talks about a “natural disaster“Who could worsen in the coming weeks, because all the supplier lakes in the country are almost empty.

In recent years, climatologists have recorded a clear decrease in precipitation in Iran. At the same time, extreme weather conditions such as drought periods have increased.

All this results from climate change caused by humans but also from political management in matters of water resources with many errors.
