The feminicide of Tatiana Mevel in Saint-Jouan-des-Guérets, a symptom of a society which “insufficiently thinks the danger”

The latest feminicide, the fifty-fifth of 2025 and already the eleventh since the beginning of July, according to the female collective counting by companions or ex, took place on the night of Friday 8 to Saturday August 9, in Saint-Jouan-des-Guérets (Ille-et-Vilaine). Like a number of feminicides, he could undoubtedly have been prevented if the alert signals had been better taken into account.

Tatiana Mevel, 36, who had just separated from her companion at the beginning of July, had filed a complaint twice in the weeks and days preceding her murder, the Saint-Malo prosecutor’s office said on Wednesday August 13. In a first complaint, filed on July 18 at the police station and completed on Thursday, August 7, she explained that her ex-companion flooded her with messages and phone calls and that he presented himself regularly at his home. The facts had been qualified as harassment by a former partner.

The young woman had again filed a complaint on Saturday August 2 at the gendarmerie this time because she “Suspected his former partner of having degraded her vehicle”according to the press release. The facts had then been described as contraventional degradations. The press release from the Saint-Malo prosecution, which did not respond to clarification requests from the Mondedoes not evoke any protection measure taken for the benefit of the complainant. He simply specifies that the young woman had declared to the investigators not to have been « victim of physical, verbal or sexual violence or death threats ».
