The government has confirmed its intention to remove two holidays: May 8 and Easter Monday for public and private employees. In a document transmitted to the social partners, the executive explains that the choice of these two days could still be discussed. A measure that does not please unions.

The proposal to remove two holidays is confirmed by the government, but it divides the French. “Je finds that it is not well explained enough, that it is a little bit abusive, and that in the end, it is always the individual, in particular the employee, who is impacted“, Says a passerby.”I am not against the removal of two holidays, but we must know what this money is for“Adds a man.”Working more to win less is something that is a bit complicated to accept“, Dress another.

In detail, employees will not be paid more for these new hours of work. Companies will generate more wealth in return. They will have to pay a contribution allocated to the state budget. This could amount to 0.6 % of their payroll, enough to bring 4.2 billion euros to the State. If no date has currently been arrested, Easter Monday and May 8 are in the sights of the government. A very bad idea for employees of this industrial company. “LE May 8 represents the end of the war and it is a date that must remain in the memories. I think they suffered enough to remember this date and that we don’t work that day“, Says an employee.”Work one more or less day, it will not change much to me in my life and, anyway, we don’t have too much choice“, retorts a member of the company.

For the moment, most unions and employers refuse to negotiate. Some denounce an unfair measure. “”We will fly 8 billion euros to the French without producing anything more. These 8 billion will be divided into two: 4 billion for employers and 4 billion for the public treasury. So, to this extent, there is absolutely nothing to negotiate“, castigates François Manril, president of the French Confederation of Management – General Confederation of Cadres (CFE – CGC).

An inter -union meeting is scheduled for September 1 to discuss the measure.
