One to two euros per box of medicines, two to four euros for consultation: the government is considering an increase in unitary medical deductibles, which remains borne by the patient, said Minister of Health Yannick Neuder on Thursday.
The political leader has mentioned on TF1 “deductible increases that are offered in discussions”, asked about information from Les Echos.
The economic newspaper explains that the unit amount of franchises will “double”. “The medication franchise should go from one to two euros per box in early 2026,” writes the daily. “And the package of two euros per consultation with the general practitioner should climb to four euros,” adds Les Echos.
According to Yannick Neuder, it is “figures that are offered in the budget sheet” which stems from the savings plan of nearly 44 billion euros presented in mid-July by Prime Minister François Bayrou.
The idea, “it is above all” to “make everyone aware that health is priceless but it has a cost,” said the Minister of Health.
It is not a question of “stigmatizing the patients, because one does not choose to be sick”, insisted the member of the government.
Medical franchises do not concern “pregnant women”, “minors”, nor “people with modest incomes, with in particular the C2S”, recalled Mr. Neuder. The C2S, complementary solidarity health, is aid to pay health expenses according to income.
“All of these measures will be discussed in Parliament, it is Parliament that decides in the end,” concluded the Minister of Health.
In mid-July, François Bayrou had announced the doubling of the global medical franchise ceiling, which would drop from 50 to 100 euros per year, without revealing the increases in the unit amounts.
This lever has already raised shield in patient associations. France Assos Santé, voice of the users of the health system in France, has thus expressed “its great concern in the face of the defended political orientation, which makes weighing on the users of the health system the responsibility of current drifts and tensions”.
The Association of Accidents of Life (FNATH) also said it was “scandalized”. “No, medical franchises and other participations have never empowered anyone because it is, no more, no less, than a disease on the disease and which applies, moreover, to those who need the most care,” said this organization.
